The Common Sense Lawn Care Program

Nature is your most powerful ally to having a beautiful lawn.  It is just common sense to take full advantage of the forces of nature which will promote the growth of grass and also discourage and frustrate the growth of weeds in your lawn.  Drugging your lawn with chemical treatments without performing simple, inexpensive natural treatments first does not make good sense.

Common Sense Lawn Care seeks to have a full and healthy lawn turf in a natural way with a minimum of effort and expense. The turf environment will be fostered to simply favor the growth of grass. Grass will be the dominant plant and crowd out undesirable plant growth naturally. A natural, chemical-free turf ecosystem will also support beneficial microorganisms. Their presence will enhance the turf and resist disease.

The Big Six of Common Sense Lawn Care

1. Optimum mowing practice.

2. Balance the pH.

3. Aerate.

4. Overseed.

5. Organic fertilization.

6. Leave it alone and don’t interfere with chemical treatments.

Measures beyond these basics are deemed marginally more effective in the short run and actually detrimental in the long run.

The Antithesis of Common Sense Lawn Care:

1) Mowing too low and too frequently at intervals based on time and not height.

2) Acidic soil.

3) Compacted, hard soil with a significant intact thatch layer.

4) Depleted grass plants with increasingly more open patchy areas dominated with weeds.

5) Constant chemical treatments that include inorganic fertilizers, herbicides, & insecticides.
